Kim Hung School is a new Kindergarten to Grade 9 school being built in Granville. Students who register at Kim Hung School
for 2017-2018 will have a new school to attend on September 5, 2017, the first day of the new school year, as planned. The big change is that Kim Hung students will attend a host school until the winter break because of construction delays. Kim Hung School
students and staff will be temporarily hosted at the nearby Michael Phair School
. After the winter break on January 8, 2018, the students and staff will move together to their permanent location and carry on with the rest of the year.
Because of the delayed opening of the school building, Kim Hung School in Granville (The Grange) will accommodate:
- Kindergarten to Grade 7 for the 2017-2018 school year
- Kindergarten to Grade 8 in the 2018-2019 school year
- Kindergarten to Grade 9 in the 2019-2020 school year
During the short time Kim Hung students and staff are hosted at Michael Phair School they will have:
- their own space for classes just like they would at their own school buildings
- opportunities to work with their principal and teachers
- opportunities to socialize with their friends, and make new ones
The principals and teachers of the schools will do everything they can to make the students feel comfortable and the move to the new school as smooth as possible after the winter break. I am truly honoured to be appointed the first Principal of Kim Hung School. Kim Hung School was named after an advocate of Edmonton’s Chinese community. Read his full biography or watch the Kim Hung video to learn more about his outstanding contributions and achievements.
We have exciting and innovative work ahead. Opening a new school building comes with many opportunities and challenges. Together it will be our mandate to create a school community that will bring our students, staff, families and other partners together in the best interest of our kids. Our school culture will be built on the foundation of building solid relationships, supporting students, and the creation of a “School Community” that will serve all our students and their families. Together we will set high standards for academics and citizenship for our students, and honour the legacy of Kim Hung.
As your educational leader, I will provide the leadership to foster a strong professional learning community that supports high quality education. Our staff will work diligently to create a school culture and community of learners based on our District’s Cornerstone Values of Accountability, Collaboration, Equity, and Integrity to guide our work together and create a school culture and environment where all students have the opportunity to reach their maximum potential. We will focus on high quality student achievement, citizenship, well-being and safety.
I look forward to meeting and working with you in the coming months as we work together to create a vibrant and engaging school community. ~Darrell Sush, B.Ed, M.Ed.
